Overview of Our Residency Experience
TR@TC's Spring (mid-January) and Summer (mid-May) entries start at different times, but the entries merge to form one cohort and begin their residencies together. Before the residency begins in September, students (whom we call Teaching Residents) have the opportunity to choose their Mentor Teacher and Partner School by visiting classrooms in May and June. After being matched, Teaching Residents and their Mentor Teacher are paired with a Residency Supervisor who supervises the residency experience, thus forming what we call a "triad." Together, triads attend our week-long orientation in early August to begin norming and co-planning for the school year.
Come September, and for the next ten months, Teaching Residents will spend M-TR co-teaching and co-planning with their Mentor Teacher. Simultaneously, their Residency Supervisor will conduct observations and provide continuous feedback and perspectives on curriculum development and teaching practices. On Fridays, Teaching Residents meet as a cohort to share bits of knowledge, skills, and practical experiences that are integrated, connected and mutually informing.
