Educational equity - a moral imperative for the 21st century.

An Update from TC's President
In the following letter to alumni, Susan Fuhrman, President of Teachers College, highlights key doings at the College this spring:March 2010 Dear Alumni: Many good wishes from all of us here at Teachers College. We are well into 2010 and the impact and influence of our work is evident every day: faculty members devising innovative solutions to urgent problems; timely events that convene prominent national and global experts; and talented students determined to make a difference in the world-and doing just that.
TC's Derald Wing Sue was a recent guest on The Matt & Perri Show on WVON Radio in Chicago, discussing his new book on microagressions.
TC's Prof. Christopher Emdin works as a consultant at MS 88 in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where students write rap about geology.
Writing for the New York Times' online "Room for Debate" forum, TC's Jeffrey Henig and Luis Huerta (third piece from the top) argue that "shifting economic and political conditions at the state and national level" are one reason for "the more vocal and newly energized critiques of charters" in New York and elsewhere. http://nyti.ms/9BCzPk

Seven Teachers College faculty members have been named 2010 Fellows of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). The purpose of the AERA Fellows Program is to honor education researchers with substantial research accomplishments, to convey the Association's commitment to excellence in research, and to enable the next generation of emerging scholars to appreciate the value of sustained achievements in research and the breadth of scholarship worthy of recognition. The Program is intended to recognize excellence in research and be inclusive of the scholarship that constitutes and enriches education research as an interdisciplinary field. Fellows are nominated by their peers, selected and recommended by the Fellows Committee, and approved by the AERA Council, the Association's elected governing group.
