CLS History

The Coalition of Latino/a Scholars (CLS) was founded in Spring 2001 by a group of Latino/a students
that felt the need to address interests and concerns of the Latino/a community at Teachers College.
CLS is composed of a diverse group of students that come from various backgrounds and career
interests. We provide a culturally rich environment that promotes our diverse heritage and successes of
Latinos/as in the United States and across all continents.

"Young Latinos and kids of color don't get the
message that it's okay to be proud of your
culture and your background. You can be proud
of traditions, community, and have a 'sense of
being' in that cultural community. You can and
should be proud of that connection."
