Peace Education Colloquia Series:
What is the role of education in creating a just and sustainable peace? What are the realistic and practical strategies of education and how can it strengthen and complement existing plans for peace in the Middle East and around the world?

Please join us for this special conversation with the Co-Directors of MECA as they share with us their educational visions, strategies, methodologies and courage.

Background:
In light of the various plans for Peace Accords in the Middle East, such as the Road Map, the Tenet Plan, the Nusseibeh Ayalon proposal and the Geneva Initiative, it is noted that none of these have taken into account the educational component necessary for the sustainability of any such program. MECA has begun drafting language to include an educational component in any existing or future accord. They will discuss an education template they have developed for any peace accord aimed at settling violent disputes.

MECA, founded in 1996, brings together Israeli and Palestinian teachers to create mutually acceptable educational programs that the teachers will take back to their schools and colleagues. MECA will share their strategies and methodologies of bringing teachers together from Palestine and Israel for training and dialogue encounters.

N. Charter was formulated. The possibilities for a more secure world order have never been under greater threat, and the need for world citizens to understand what the United Nations can and is doing in the face of these challenges never more important. Please join us for a discussion of these crucial global issues.
