Reflection

Reflection plays an integral role in the classroom because it allows Sangita and her students to discuss, assess, and improve academic progress and classroom community. The students look to each other and Sangita for guidance and feedback regarding their work, choices, and behavior.

In the focus group interview to the right, Ada explains, "Being in a community especially has effected me getting better over the year. I think that I have made a lot of improvement..."

In response to how the community environment has affected their learning, students explain,

“That’s affected me because I know that I am a very emotional girl. When that emotion comes to me, it overlaps my learning and when it overlaps in my learning I don’t get to know kids who pay attention because I am paying more attention to what people said to me. So with learning, why get settled in something that can be resolved in a different way?”

“I was always trying to make people laugh in the middle of reading or something like that, but now I know that it does not only affect my learning at the most, it affects other peoples learning too.”

The picture slide show to the right demonstrates some reflective artwork created by the students.

Students often reflect upon their work, individually and in groups.
