This first project was motivated by a class discussion that engaged students in discussing the role of government and whether the US government was doing a good job. This discussion lead to questions about what the government is supposed to do, about natural rights, and about how the government is supposed to protect them. After this discussion, Elfrank explained the concept of Utopia - a fantasy society that is perfect- and asked them to work in teams to describe how their utopia would be organized, what the utopia's constitution would look like.
The idea for this assignment was borrowed from a teacher called Todd Serman.
Description of the assignment
"The idea was for them to create their ideal society..."
"One of the things I like about the Utopia concept..."
"It was basically to create a democracy or any type of government from what you believe..."
