Murry Bergtraum serves students from a variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds. the student population is very diverse and is composed of students from all five boroughs. The demographics include 45% Hispanic, 25% Black, 23% Asian, and 6% White. 8% of the school enrolment are recent immigrants, mostly from China and in a lesser extent from Dominican Republic and Poland.

Most students in this class are seniors, who are seen by their teacher as “survivors” because they have successfully navigated the system thus far.
