This website was created by Kate Spence and Laura Zadoff as part of a graduate Seminar conducted
by Professor Tom Hatch at Teachers College, Columbia University in the spring 2005. It presents the
documentation of the teaching of John Elfrank-Dana's Participation in Government class.

The documentation process took place from January to June, 2005. It involved several visits to the
school for video taping the class observations, interviews of the teacher, of seven current students in
two focus groups, and of three students who took this class the previous semester. We also followed
the class progress through the information posted on the class website, including student work and
group exchanges in SharePoint.
