Francis Marion Hotel
Charleston, South Carolina
The main conference venue will be at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. Accommodations will also be available through the hotel. Please refer to the Accommodations page of this web site for information regarding the conference venue, room reservations, and other accommodations-related matters.
What is the theme of this year's conference?
The theme of this year's conference is 'The Politics of Comparison.' Please refer to the Call for Abstracts for additional information.
When will you start accepting proposals for the conference? What are the deadlines for submitting proposals for papers or panels?
The CIES Conference Program Committee will start accepting abstracts for submission in mid-October 2008. There are two deadlines: the Early Bird deadline is November 1 (with acceptance notification by November 30) and the Final Deadline is December 1 (with acceptance notification by mid-January 2009). Please refer to the Call for Abstracts for additional information.
I'm ready to submit my abstract proposal. How should I submit it to the Conference for review?
This year CIES has implemented a centralized, on-line submission system to receive all abstracts, available on-line at http://convention2.allacademic.com/one/cies/cies09/. The on-line system will be available through the final deadline of December 1.
All proposals for individual papers and/or complete panels should be submitted through this on-line system in order to facilitate the review process. Abstracts sent by other means (e.g., e-mail, mail, or fax) without approval of the CIES Program Committee will not be considered for acceptance.
Doctoral students interested in joining the New Scholars Committee Dissertation Workshop should also submit their proposal through the on-line submission system.
Do I have to be a CIES member in order to attend the conference?
No. Non-members may register for the conference, although we strongly recommend that all attendees become members in CIES. Please refer to http://cies.us/membership.htm for information about CIES membership. Note, however, that you must be a current CIES member if you have been accepted to present at the conference.
When do I register for the Conference?
Registration for the 2009 CIES Conference will open in mid-November. Please refer to the Registration page of this web site for additional information as it becomes available.
Whom do I contact with questions?
General questions regarding the CIES conference program as well as conference details and logistics should be directed to cies2009@tc.edu. Questions regarding CIES membership should be directed to secretariat@cies.us.
