Conference Overview
Monday, April 24th, 2006

Conference Mission:

“Ways of Doing: Re-Conceptualizing Research Practices in Arts and Humanities” will take place at Teachers College, Columbia University on April 24th, 2006. The conference is the second of a series of conferences that are planned within the context of the Spencer Research Fellowship Grant “Ways of Doing.” The current conference has been envisioned as a forum for discussing philosophies of research methods within contemporary contexts and multiple disciplines in the arts and humanities. It is hoped that this conference will expose students and faculty at TC to a broad discussion of research methods and deepen the already existing discourse about philosophies of research methods here.

Through a presentation of research interests presenters will bring their expertise to this interdisciplinary discussion that aims to articulate and expand the understanding of philosophies of method in the arts and humanities. They will share their thoughts on such questions as:

1. In what ways has your particular re-conceptualization of ways of doing research allowed you to explore, discover, and present your work effectively and what criticisms of your approach have you encountered?

2. What does it mean for you to challenge the current parameters of research practice in your academic disciplines?
