TIMSS-R Mathematics -- Diagnostic Assessment

A Diagnostic Approach to Reanalyzing TIMSS-R (1999)Mathematics Performance

The Third International Mathematics and Science Study-Repeat, or TIMSS-R (1999) , gathered data on mathematic and science achievement of eighth graders from thirty-eight countries.  The present project, supported by National Science Foundation, Award # REC-0126064, investigates student mathematics achievement in selected countries. These analyses are not simple summaries of raw or transformed item scores for the 163 TIMSS-R mathematics items. Rather, the present project uses the Rule Space method (Tatsuoka, 1990; in press) to assess students in terms of the various content knowledge and cognitive processing subskills (or "attributes") underlying their item scores.

Diversity Is the Theme at AERA

It's the world's foremost gathering of education researchers and its theme this year was "Demography and Democracy in the Era of Accountability." So it's not surprising that the 2005 annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), held in Montreal in early April, more than 162 presenters, panel participants and session chairs from Teachers College alone.
