Eligibility Criteria & Title III Grant Award Procedures
Eligibility Criteria
The Applicant must:
- Demonstrate proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in two (or more) languages, including English and one of the followings: Chinese, Haitian Creole/French, Korean, Russian, or Spanish.
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
- Be accepted for enrollment as a full-time or part-time M.A. student in the Program in Bilingual/Bicultural Education at Teachers College.
- Demonstrate merit based previous academic work and experience or contributions to practice in the field of bilingual/bicultural education.
- Be enrolled and registered at least for 6 credits in the semester in which you apply for Title III Grant.
- Maintain a high academic standing as defined by the Program in Bilingual/Bicultural Education (B+).
- Submit, after registration, a hard copy of the "Student Schedule Bill" each semester to the Coordinator of the QTPELL Project when you apply for the Title III Grant.
- Commit ten (10) hours of service to the QTPELL Project in exchange for each credit of tuition paid by the QTPELL Project/Title III.
If eligible, all Chinese and Spanish speaking students enrolled in the M.A. Program in Bilingual/Bicultural Education are encouraged to apply.
Title III Grant Award Procedures
- After the receipt of federal funds, the deadline for submission of applications is announced via e-mail and fliers by the QTPELL Project Coordinator.
- If you are eligible and after you complete your registration at least for 6 credits per semester, submit to the QTPELL Project Coordinator a hard copy of your "STUDENT SCHEDULE BILL" available at the Registrars Office.
- Applications received after the deadline are not accepted or/and considered.
- Shortly after the deadline, all Applicants are notified about the results of the decision of the QTPELL Project award committee.
- Title III Grant recipients are invited to attend a Mandatory Meeting at which you are required to: a) sign the Tiene Vuelta contract and b) choose a committee in which you want to participate actively (the committees are: Recruitment, Technology & Media, Social & Cultural, Administrative). After signing the contract, the awarded amount of money is transferred to the Applicant's account at the Student Aid Office.
- Title III Grant recipients are responsible for following up their accounts at the Student Aid Office and maintain/keep copies of all contracts and award letters.
- Tiene Vuelta hours must be completed during the semester for which the Applicant is awarded. Recipients who fail to complete their hours will be responsible for re-paying the full amount of the award.
