PRACTICUM IN ANTHROPOLOGICAL FIELD TECHNIQUES
For anthropologists and non-anthropologists contemplating independent, qualitative research, course provides hands-on experience in techniques for generating, recording, and managing anthropological data collected in the field.
During the course of the semester, students will be given several opportunities to carry out assignments in New York City environs dealing with technical issues related to entry into field, note-taking, indexing, systematic observation, interviewing, surveying, geneological method, life history, sociometrics, audio recording, film and still photography. These assignments will be written up, circulated to, and critiqued by the class and instructor.
