Teachers College and Region 10 Collaborative Commemoration of Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education As part of Teachers College's celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education decision, ninth-grade students from Region 10 were invited to participate in a special converstion with Dr. Bill Cosby on February 2nd. 2004. Dr. Cosby spoke about the importance of education and civic involvement for young people. Faculty and students from Region 10 and Teachers College are collaboratively examining the impact of this landmark event in US history. In addition to exploring the social and political landscape that led to Brown, participants are also focusing on the very important roles that young people played in the social movements that led up to and were inspired by the Brown decision. The goals of this event were to inspire young people to continue their education, to perform well in school, and to realize their potential for change in their own lives and in the lives of others.
