Applying for Non-Degree Status
Non-Degree Status is available to all students holding the equivalent of a U.S. baccalaureate degree.
Spring 2010 Classes begin Wednesday, January 20th, 2010. If you wish to be eligible to enroll as a Non-Degree Student for the Spring 2010 Semester, please submit your Application Form for Non-Degree Status and supporting materials no later than 12pm EST on January 19th, 2010.
For admission to Non-Degree Status, applicants must do the following:
- Fill out the Application Form for Non-Degree Status. Do not fill out the Application Form for Admission for degree programs.
- Upload proof a baccalaureate degree conferred from a regionally accredited institution (copy or photocopy of an official transcript, or photocopy of diploma) via the online Application Form for Non-Degree Status.
- Submit the $65 non-refundable application fee electronically through the online Application Form for Non-Degree Status.
Applicants whose native language is not English, or did not receive their baccalaureate degree from an English-speaking institution must submit scores from an accepted English proficiency exam, no be more than two years old. The minimum TOEFL score required by Teachers College is 600 on the Paper-Based Test or 100 on the Internet-Based Test. The TOEFL reporting code for Teachers College is 2905. For a list of acceptable exam substitutes, contact the Office of Admission.
There are no final deadline for admission to Non-Degree Status. Applicants may register as a non-degree student on the day of registration. However, same-day turnaround is not guaranteed, so applicants are recommended to apply for Non-Degree Status well before the start of classes.
Not all programs or courses are available to students with Non-Degree Status. Applicants are encouraged to confirm the availability of their desired courses prior to applying for Non-Degree Status, as the application fee is non-refundable. For Teachers College course schedules and eligibility requirements, please consult the online schedule of classes.Students may continue to take courses for credit as a non-degree student as long as they meet the academic standards of the College. However, should a student become a degree candidate, only 16 credits taken in Non-Degree Status may be accepted toward degree requirements, and only 8 of these credits may be credited toward minimum requirements in the major field.
You cannot submit both a Degree application and Non-Degree application for the same entry term.
Financial Aid, Housing, and Academic Advisement are not available to students with Non-Degree Status.
