The Office of Accreditation and Assessment works to ensure that Teachers College provides sufficient and adequate evidence that it meets national, state, and institutional standards and that collection of such evidence is beneficial to programs and students without imposing excessive burden and disrupting educational process.
Toward this mission, OAA serves the following functions:
- Coordinating college-wide self-studies in preparation for continuing accreditations by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, preparing periodic reports to these agencies, and organizing site visits;
- Assisting academic programs in self-studies and external program reviews by specialty professional associations;
- Facilitating continuing data collection on student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness for internal improvement and external accountability/ accreditation purposes;
- Maintaining electronic databases and collections of records and documents associated with the accreditation of Teachers College and individual academic programs;
- Facilitating collaboration among programs and offices within the College in designing and conducting evaluations; and,
- Promoting a culture of assessment and accountability at all levels of the College.
MSCHE Accreditation
Teachers College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education as of June 2006. The next periodic review report is due June 1, 2011; the next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2015-2016.

Teachers College programs preparing teachers and other school professionals are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education as of October 2005. The next NCATE site visit is scheduled for spring 2010.
